In 2017, the Halsnead Garden Village Sustainable Urban Extension (SUE) was adopted by Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council (KMBC). The former Cronton Colliery site forms part of the SUE and is allocated for employment uses and a Country Park.
The Land Trust plans to create a stunning new wildlife haven within an informal Country Park setting for the local community to enjoy. The site of the former colliery will be rejuvenated to provide an exemplary publicly accessible open space and community facilities.
The Country Park will include 5km of paths for walking, running and cycling. The Land Trust have also been working closely with the British Horse Society to ensure bridleways and access for horse riders is an integral part of the plans.
A planning application will be submitted by the Land Trust to Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council for the Country Park, later this Summer.
A separate planning application will be submitted by Tritax Symmetry to Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council for the employment park, later this Summer.
